A Full-Scale Experimental Investigation on Ride Comfort and Rolling Motion of High-Speed Train Equipped With MR Dampers

The rail irregularities and wheel-rail interactions in a train running at high speeds may result large-amplitude vibrations the train’s car body affect passengers by reducing ride comfort. suspension systems have crucial role improving comfort to an acceptable level. In this context, exclusive magneto-rheological (MR) damper with favorable dynamic range was designed fabricated. MR dampers were installed high-speed secondary lateral system, replacing passive hydraulic mitigate vibration of keep level proper condition. A unique full-scale experimental investigation on equipped carried out evaluate functionality real operating situation. roller experiments conducted vast from 80 350 km/hr. At each speed, different currents applied dampers. responses collected accelerometers displacement sensors mounted carriage floor sidewall. To investigate quality train, indices rolling motion are evaluated. Ride under various conditions calculated through Sperling UIC513 rules. This study reveals that effectively reduce body’s motion. According index, “clearly noticeable” some when adopting dampers, but it not unpleasant. Besides, “very good comfort” achieved according criterion. Also, no instability whatsoever observed speeds.
